Medford, OR – Drivers across Medford and the I-5 corridor should expect steady rain through Wednesday as back-to-back storm fronts move into southern Oregon. While totals will be lighter inland, the coast will be drenched, with Brookings and Gold Beach forecast to receive more than 2 inches of rain.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, the first system arrives Monday with another Tuesday evening, keeping showers in place between the two fronts. Rainfall amounts around Medford and Grants Pass could approach half an inch, enough to create slick conditions on area roads.
Travelers on I-5 should prepare for slower commutes, especially during heavier bursts of rain. The Oregon Department of Transportation urges drivers to reduce speed, increase following distance, and keep headlights on when rain is steady.
Farther east, lighter showers are expected with Lakeview and Paisley likely to receive less than a tenth of an inch. Along the coast, residents should watch for minor rockslides on Highway 101 as saturated ground weakens slopes.
Showers are expected to taper off late Wednesday, though more systems could arrive later in the week.
