Medford, OR – Drivers across parts of southern Oregon are being urged to use caution early Monday as dense fog settles into the Umpqua, Rogue, and Illinois Valleys, according to the National Weather Service in Medford.
Forecasters said the fog could reduce visibility to less than one-quarter of a mile in some areas, especially near river valleys and low-lying routes. The fog is expected to linger through sunrise before gradually lifting later in the morning.
Motorists are advised to use low-beam headlights, drive slowly, and maintain extra distance from other vehicles. The NWS also recommends delaying non-urgent travel until conditions improve.
The fog advisory follows a period of clear and calm overnight weather that allowed moisture to settle across valley floors, a common pattern for late October in the region.
Drivers along major routes such as I-5, Highway 62, and Highway 199 should remain alert for rapidly changing visibility, especially before 9 a.m.
