Medford, OR – The National Weather Service in Medford has issued a Dense Fog Advisory through 9 a.m. Tuesday, warning of visibility dropping to a quarter-mile or less across several southwest Oregon valleys.
The advisory covers the Rogue, Illinois, Applegate, Scott, Shasta, and lower Klamath River valleys, where fog has settled in overnight and is expected to linger through the early morning commute. Forecasters say drivers should use low-beam headlights, reduce speed, and allow extra space between vehicles until the fog begins to lift by mid-morning.
“Visibility below a quarter-mile will create hazardous driving conditions,” the NWS said, noting that travel may be especially difficult on rural highways and low-lying areas where fog tends to pool. Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to wear bright or reflective clothing to remain visible to drivers.
Conditions are expected to improve late in the morning as temperatures rise and fog dissipates, giving way to clearer skies by midday. No major precipitation is expected through the rest of the day.
