Medford, Oregon – A series of storm systems is expected to bring heavy rain, mountain snow and gusty winds to southern Oregon beginning late Saturday, with impacts possible along Interstate 5 and surrounding highways.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, light showers Wednesday will taper off overnight, followed by a brief period of drier weather Thursday into Friday. Conditions are expected to shift late Saturday as a deepening offshore trough moves inland.

Forecasters say moderate snowfall is possible in higher elevations, especially across the Cascades and near Mount Shasta in Northern California. Snow levels are projected to range between 4,000 and 5,500 feet, which could bring accumulating snow to mountain passes along Highway 62 and Highway 140.

Moderate rain is expected along the coast, including Curry County, with heavier rain potential Monday into Tuesday as a second low-pressure system moves through. That system may also introduce a colder and wetter pattern, increasing the chance of snow impacts east of the Cascades and across some west-side valleys.

Strong, gusty winds are also possible early next week, particularly in northern California and east-side areas, which could affect high-profile vehicles along I-5.

While details remain uncertain, the National Weather Service notes confidence will increase as the systems approach.

Students returning to school Monday and early-week commuters should monitor updated forecasts for potential travel impacts.

Residents are encouraged to check for forecast updates as storm timing and intensity become clearer later this week.
