Medford, Oregon – A licensed real estate broker pleaded guilty Monday to federal charges tied to improper cash transfers and obstruction of justice in Josephine County.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon, Iyra Foxx, 46, admitted to avoiding federal reporting requirements and obstructing justice related to transactions connected to a client’s illegal marijuana operation.

Prosecutors said that between January and November 2020, Foxx allegedly assisted Jose Orozco in purchasing agricultural properties intended for hemp and marijuana cultivation. Authorities said Orozco made large cash payments outside of escrow. Because her brokerage did not accept cash, Foxx converted $100,000 into money orders and used a third-party broker’s trust account to transfer more than $2 million into escrow accounts, according to prosecutors.

On Oct. 13, 2020, Foxx allegedly received $175,000 to purchase property in Josephine County but failed to file a required Form 8300 documenting the cash transaction. Instead, authorities said she transferred the funds to another client trust account, resulting in a Currency Transaction Report filed under another real estate office’s name.

After law enforcement raided one of Orozco’s marijuana grows, Foxx allegedly drafted fake leases and suggested filing construction liens to prevent potential federal forfeiture by the IRS and Homeland Security Investigations.

Foxx faces up to 20 years in prison on one count and 10 years on another, along with substantial fines. She is scheduled for sentencing May 11 in U.S. District Court.

Orozco previously pleaded guilty to money laundering and is scheduled to be sentenced April 6.

The Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team, IRS, and Homeland Security Investigations led the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Johnny Braswell is prosecuting the case.
