Charlotte, NC – Thunderstorms could bring heavy rain, lightning, and localized flooding to Charlotte and surrounding areas Tuesday, with impacts possible from the morning commute through evening rush hour.

According to the National Weather Service, a 70% chance of showers and storms is expected before 10 a.m. Tuesday, followed by additional storm activity into the afternoon and evening. Winds will shift from the east to southwest, gusting up to 6 mph, and rainfall amounts could reach an inch or more in localized pockets. The greatest impacts are expected along I-77, Uptown Charlotte, and low-lying neighborhoods prone to poor drainage.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time, avoid flooded roadways, and secure outdoor items that could blow away during gusty periods. Outdoor activities, including youth sports practices and construction work, may face delays or cancellations.

Storm chances remain into Tuesday night before tapering off early Wednesday, with another round of showers possible midweek. Residents should monitor weather alerts for possible flood advisories or severe thunderstorm warnings.
