Meadville, PA – Residents across Crawford and Southern Erie counties are bracing for worsening lake-effect snow tonight as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. Monday, bringing additional snowfall and hazardous road conditions into the start of the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, snow bands streaming off Lake Erie will continue to shift across the region, producing up to 6 additional inches in the higher terrain of eastern Erie and Crawford counties. Locally higher totals are possible where lake-effect bands remain stationary. Winds gusting up to 35 mph may further reduce visibility during the heaviest snowfall periods.

Forecasters warn that the Monday morning commute may be significantly impacted, especially across northeastern Crawford County and inland eastern Erie County, where snow ratios and impacts are expected to be greatest. Areas farther west should see lower accumulations and fewer travel issues.

Lake-effect snow showers are forecast to intensify overnight, with the heaviest snowfall rates likely from late evening into early Monday morning. Rapidly changing conditions are possible as snow bands shift.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission are urging motorists to delay unnecessary travel and to follow all posted advisories and restrictions. Drivers who must be on the road should slow down, use caution, and allow extra time.
