Meadville, PA – A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect through 1 p.m. Tuesday for Crawford and Southern Erie Counties, where another 4 to 6 inches of snow and gusty winds are expected overnight, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.
Forecasters say the heaviest snow will fall in narrow, persistent bands, with localized snowfall rates reaching up to 2 inches per hour early Tuesday morning. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph will lead to blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility to below a quarter mile at times.
The NWS warns that travel will be difficult, especially along Interstate 79, U.S. 6, and U.S. 19. Roads, bridges, and overpasses may quickly become slick and hazardous. The combination of heavy snow and gusty winds could also result in isolated power outages as snow-laden tree limbs and power lines come under stress.
Drivers are urged to delay non-essential travel and monitor road conditions via 511pa.com. Those who must travel should carry extra supplies, including a flashlight, water, and blankets, in case of emergencies.
Conditions should gradually improve by early afternoon as lake effect snow weakens.
