McRoberts, Kentucky – A 70-year-old man died after a house fire Saturday morning in Letcher County, prompting a state investigation.

According to Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard, troopers were dispatched at approximately 7:41 a.m. Saturday to a reported structure fire along KY Highway 343 in the community of McRoberts.

Troopers and local first responders arrived to find the residence fully engulfed in flames. After the fire was extinguished, emergency personnel conducted a search of the home for the homeowner, identified as Robert Mullins, 70, of McRoberts.

During the search, authorities located human remains inside the residence. Officials said the remains are believed to be those of Mullins. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Letcher County Coroner’s Office.

Kentucky State Police said no foul play is suspected at this time. The remains were transported to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
