Hebron, IL – A Crystal Lake man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and two other vehicles Wednesday evening near Hebron in Greenwood Township.

According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 5:23 p.m. Wednesday near the 5800 block of Route 47. Authorities responded to the scene, including the McHenry County Conservation District Police, Hebron/Alden/Greenwood Fire Protection District, McHenry County Emergency Management Agency, and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

Preliminary reports indicate a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling southbound on US Route 47 when it crossed the center line and collided with a 2016 Ford Explorer heading northbound. The motorcycle then struck a trailer being pulled by a 2018 Chevrolet pickup truck.

The 44-year-old man from Crystal Lake, who was operating the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been publicly released as of Thursday. The 42-year-old Hebron man driving the Ford Explorer was uninjured and not transported for medical care. A 32-year-old male passenger and a 34-year-old male passenger in the Ford also escaped injury.

Authorities stated that alcohol is believed to have contributed to the crash. The motorcyclist was reportedly wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit, along with the McHenry County Coroner’s Office, continues to investigate the fatal collision.
