McHenry County, IL – A Capron man died in a single-vehicle crash on Illinois Route 173 near Harvard on Saturday, April 5, 2025. The crash occurred at 3:03 p.m. in the 24700 block of the roadway, in Dunham Township, just west of White Oaks Road.
According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, a 1984 Chevrolet Corvette was traveling eastbound at high speeds when it attempted to pass other vehicles. The vehicle reportedly lost control, veered off the roadway, and rolled over, coming to a stop in a field to the north. The driver, the only occupant, sustained fatal injuries due to the crash.
Authorities believe speed and reckless driving may have contributed to the deadly incident. No other vehicles were involved. Investigators from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit, alongside the McHenry County Coroner’s Office, are working to determine the exact cause of the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing, with officials urging caution in high-speed conditions.
