McHenry County, IL – A 38-year-old man from Woodstock was killed Monday evening after being electrocuted during a farm equipment accident on County Line Road south of Jackson Road in unincorporated McHenry County.
According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews were called around 5:17 p.m. on October 27, 2025, after a report of farm machinery striking a power line in a ditch. Boone County Fire Protection District Two initially responded, later determining the location was within McHenry County. Deputies arrived shortly after 5:30 p.m.
Investigators said a 56-year-old man from Hebron was operating a John Deere 9520RX tractor pulling a Brent 2096 grain cart when the chute reportedly came into contact with overhead power lines, causing them to fall. The energized lines then touched the tractor.
The Woodstock man, who had been operating a semi-truck parked nearby, attempted to approach and board the tractor when he was electrocuted. Authorities said he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The tractor operator was taken to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, where he was listed in fair condition. ComEd crews were called to secure the downed lines and assist investigators.
The incident remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
