McHenry County, IL – A 36-year-old Hebron man was seriously injured Wednesday night following a crash involving farm equipment on Thayer Road, just west of Illinois Route 47, in unincorporated McHenry County.

According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred around 7:57 p.m. on October 20 when a 2009 Honda Odyssey traveling westbound on Thayer Road struck the rear attachment of an eastbound Case 620 tractor. Deputies and several local fire protection districts responded to the scene.

Officials said the Honda sustained major damage, trapping the driver inside. Emergency crews extricated the man, who was then transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry, where he remains in serious condition.

The tractor driver, identified as a 78-year-old man from Hebron, was not injured. Investigators noted that airbags deployed in the Honda, but the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor, authorities said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit continues to investigate the incident.
