McHenry County, IL – A 20-year-old Harvard man was seriously injured Friday morning after a single-vehicle crash near Richmond, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the crash happened around 9:55 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025, in the 7700 block of Tryon Grove Road, east of Greenwood Road, in unincorporated McHenry County. Deputies, along with Richmond Police and the Richmond Township Protection District, responded to the scene.

Preliminary findings show that a 2010 Hyundai Elantra traveling eastbound on Tryon Grove Road left the roadway, sideswiped two trees, and struck a fence. The vehicle sustained significant damage.

According to deputies, the driver — a 20-year-old male from Harvard — was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Airbags did deploy. The man was airlifted by medical helicopter to Mercyhealth Javon Bea Hospital–Riverside in Rockford, where he remains in serious condition.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
