Denver, CO – An E. coli outbreak tied to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders has sickened 49 people, with 10 hospitalized in Colorado and Nebraska. The affected burgers have been temporarily pulled from some locations.

According to the CDC, the outbreak spans ten states, with Colorado and Nebraska reporting the majority of cases. Symptoms include severe diarrhea, dehydration, and vomiting. One death has also been confirmed in the outbreak.

Investigators are working with McDonald’s to determine the contaminated ingredient. McDonald’s has stopped using fresh slivered onions and quarter-pound beef patties in several states while the investigation continues. These items will remain off the menu until the source is identified.

The CDC advises customers who ate a Quarter Pounder and are experiencing symptoms to seek medical attention. Common symptoms include bloody diarrhea and dehydration, which may require hospitalization.
