Mayslake Forest Preserve Mini-Shelters Coming Soon

Oak Brook, Ill. — The off-leash dog areas at Mayslake Forest Preserve in Oak Brook will be temporarily closed for the addition of two new mini-shelters. The installation will be June 23 to 26 until 3:00 p.m. Following installation, the area will be closed on Thursdays July 3, July 10, July 17 and July 24 until 2:00 p.m. This information comes from the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County offers seven designated off-leash areas at forest preserves around the county. The off-leash areas are located at Blackwell, East Branch, Greene Valley, Hawk Hollow, Mayslake,, Oldfield Oaks and Springbrook Prairie forest preserves. Specific details about the location of the off-leash areas at each park can be found online. The areas are open from one hour after sunrise to one hour after sunset unless otherwise noted. 

Annual or daily permits are required for each dog to use the off-leash areas. These can be bought online or through Visitor Services by phone or at their headquarters. People 65 or older, active U.S. military personnel and honorably discharged U.S. veterans can receive one free annual permit per year per household. Proof of age or military status is required.

Rules and regulations can also be found online for the off-leash areas. The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County will regularly post closings for maintenance on Facebook or through text alerts.
