Barnstable, Mass. – Winds topping 50 mph could whip across Cape Cod and the Islands through Tuesday evening as a Wind Advisory remains in effect for Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket counties, along with Rhode Island’s Block Island.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, west winds between 15 and 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected through 7 p.m. Tuesday. The advisory, issued Monday afternoon, warns that unsecured outdoor items could be blown around and scattered debris may create driving hazards.
Gusty winds could also lead to isolated power outages, especially where tree limbs are weakened by saturated ground. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use extra caution on bridges and open stretches of Route 6 and Route 28. Ferry operators may face delays or cancellations as conditions worsen offshore.
The strongest gusts are expected tonight through Tuesday morning before easing late in the day. Residents are urged to secure patio furniture, trash bins, and holiday decorations before winds intensify.
Advisories remain in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday, with updates expected from the National Weather Service as conditions evolve.
