BOSTON, Mass. – Massachusetts residents will enjoy a refreshing break from summer heat Tuesday as cooler, drier air settles across the state, keeping highs in the upper 70s with plenty of sunshine. The National Weather Service said west breezes will help hold down humidity, making it one of the most comfortable days of late August.
According to the Weather Service, temperatures will run slightly below normal, topping out near 78 degrees in Boston, Worcester, and Springfield, with coastal towns such as Plymouth and New Bedford staying a degree or two cooler. A few clouds may linger over the Berkshires, but most of Southern New England will see clear skies through the evening.
Travelers can expect smooth commutes with dry pavement statewide, though west winds between 10 and 15 mph may create a light chop along the Cape and Islands. Utility crews anticipate no weather-related interruptions, while energy demand is expected to stay lower thanks to mild temperatures.
Conditions remain calm into Thursday before a shift to unsettled weather late in the week. Showers and thunderstorms are likely Friday into Saturday, which could impact evening events and outdoor plans.
