Boston, MA – Travelers across Massachusetts should brace for a mix of rain and snow along I-90 and other major routes beginning Wednesday. Forecasters are warning of potential travel disruptions as a cold front sweeps through the state, marking the start of wintry weather this week.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the week will start with calm conditions. Monday and Tuesday are expected to remain dry and sunny, with high temperatures reaching the upper 30s to low 40s. Nights will be cold, with lows dipping into the 20s. However, the weather takes a turn on Wednesday as a storm system moves in, bringing rain across most of the state during the day. By Wednesday evening, colder air will trigger a transition to snow, especially in higher elevations and western Massachusetts.

Drivers along I-90 and other key routes should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility, particularly overnight Wednesday into Thursday. The Berkshires are expected to see the heaviest snow, with lighter accumulations closer to the Boston area. Commuters should allow extra time for travel and check updated forecasts frequently as conditions evolve.

By Thursday morning, precipitation is expected to taper off, leaving behind chilly conditions with highs near 40°F. The rest of the week will remain mostly clear but cold, with overnight temperatures dropping into the teens and 20s.

The NWS advises motorists to keep an emergency kit in their vehicles, including warm clothing and a flashlight, and to monitor local weather alerts. Those planning holiday travel should remain flexible and consider adjusting plans to avoid hazardous conditions during the storm.
