BARNSTABLE, Mass. – A powerful coastal storm will whip across Cape Cod beginning Sunday evening, bringing strong northeast winds and scattered power outages through Monday. The National Weather Service in Boston/Norton has continued a Wind Advisory for Barnstable County from 5 p.m. Sunday until 8 p.m. Monday.
According to the NWS Boston office, sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts reaching 50 mph are expected across the Cape, including Falmouth, Chatham, and Provincetown. The strongest gusts will occur along exposed beaches and headlands late tonight through early Monday.
Forecasters warn that the gusty winds may down tree limbs and lead to isolated power outages, especially where soils remain soft from recent rain. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use extra caution on the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges, where crosswinds could make travel difficult.
Eversource crews are preparing for potential scattered outages, and local emergency management officials urge residents to secure outdoor decorations and lightweight objects before the winds pick up. Mariners should also prepare for rough seas as northeast winds increase to near gale force offshore.
Conditions will gradually ease Monday evening, but breezy conditions will persist into early Tuesday as the coastal low slowly pulls away.
