Boston, MA – Massachusetts residents won’t be shaking off the cold anytime soon. The NOAA Climate Prediction Center’s 8–14 Day Outlook, issued December 1, shows below-normal temperatures continuing across the Northeast, including the Bay State, from December 9 through December 15.

The pattern follows an early December blast of Arctic air that dropped temperatures well below average. NOAA forecasters say the upcoming week will keep highs in the 30s across much of the state, with wind chills making it feel even colder — especially during the morning commute.

Precipitation chances also climb during this period. The forecast calls for above-normal precipitation, meaning Massachusetts could see rain and snow showers depending on location. Boston and Cape Cod may experience more coastal rain events, while Worcester, Springfield, and western Massachusetts could see snow or a wintry mix midweek.

While the West Coast warms dramatically — from California to Texas — the Northeast will stay entrenched in a cold, active weather pattern through mid-month. Brief thaws are possible late in December, but forecasters caution that colder air could return before Christmas.

Residents are advised to plan for continued winter-like conditions and watch for slick roads during morning and evening travel.
