HYANNIS, Mass. – A surge of strong coastal winds is set to sweep across Cape Cod late Sunday through Monday, potentially causing scattered power outages and travel delays. The National Weather Service in Boston/Norton has issued a Wind Advisory for Barnstable County—including Falmouth, Chatham, and Provincetown—from 8 p.m. Sunday to 8 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, east winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected as a coastal low intensifies just offshore. The strongest winds will occur along exposed shorelines and higher terrain during the day Monday.

Gusty conditions may knock down small branches and unsecured outdoor items. According to NWS meteorologists, isolated power outages are possible, particularly in areas with weakened trees. Residents are urged to secure patio furniture, trash bins, and Halloween decorations before winds increase Sunday night.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency advises motorists—especially those driving high-profile vehicles on Route 6 and Route 28—to use extra caution and prepare for sudden crosswinds. Ferry operations to the islands could also face delays or cancellations if seas build beyond safe limits.

Winds are expected to gradually ease by Monday evening as the storm moves east into the Atlantic, with calmer, cooler weather returning by midweek.
