BOSTON, Massachusetts – After a mild start to November, Massachusetts residents should prepare for a noticeable drop in temperatures and the growing chance of early-season snow between November 9 and 15. The state’s long stretch of fall comfort is set to end as colder air from Canada begins sweeping south, tightening the grip of winter across New England.

According to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center, most of Massachusetts will experience near-normal precipitation and near-normal temperatures during the period. However, subtle shifts in the upper-level jet stream could allow for short-lived coastal storms or interior snow events — particularly across Worcester County, the Berkshires, and higher terrain in western Massachusetts.

The National Weather Service in Boston/Norton reports that a cold front early next week will likely bring rain changing to snow in the hills west of I-495, followed by gusty northwest winds and rapidly falling temperatures. Inland areas may see patchy frost and icy spots by midweek, while the coast remains mostly wet but blustery.

Drivers on I-90, Route 2, and the Mass Pike should stay alert for slick stretches, especially during overnight commutes. Energy providers are urging residents to inspect heating systems, insulate pipes, and secure outdoor items before the colder pattern settles in.

With Thanksgiving less than three weeks away, early preparation is key. Even minor snow or ice events could disrupt travel plans, and meteorologists warn that the pattern shaping up for mid-November may signal a stormier start to late fall across southern New England.
