Boston, MA – A colder and more unsettled pattern is setting up across Massachusetts from Nov. 29th through Dec. 5th, bringing a mix of cold rain, wet snow, and early-winter travel impacts across much of the state.

According to NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, temperatures during this period are expected to trend below normal statewide, including coastal areas such as Boston, central regions like Worcester, and western Massachusetts communities from Springfield to the Berkshires. Overnight lows may fall below freezing across interior and elevated areas, increasing the risk for accumulating snow when storm systems pass through.

NOAA’s precipitation outlook also features a strong signal for above-normal precipitation across Massachusetts, suggesting the state will see multiple disturbances capable of delivering rain, mixed precipitation, and pockets of snow.

Boston and the eastern coastline are most likely to experience cold rain, with occasional rain–snow transitions possible during colder nights. Central and western regions — including Worcester County, the Pioneer Valley, and the Berkshires — hold the highest probability of snow or a rain–snow mix, especially at higher elevations and during early morning hours.

Forecasters emphasize that this is not a signal for a single major winter storm but rather a series of weaker systems that could still lead to slick road conditions, reduced visibility, and travel delays, particularly on I-90, I-93, and Route 2.

As early December approaches, residents across Massachusetts should monitor local forecasts closely, especially for shifting rain–snow lines in central and western parts of the state.
