Boston, Mass. – After a cooler weekend across Massachusetts, a surge of summer heat will arrive by Tuesday, sending temperatures into the upper 80s and low 90s for much of the state by July 16.

According to the US National Weather Service Boston, highs will climb steadily after Monday, with cities like Hartford and Springfield reaching 91°F by Tuesday afternoon. Boston, Worcester, and Lowell are also expected to see daytime temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90s through midweek, with overnight lows providing little relief.

Communities along the coast, including Gloucester and Nantucket, will see slightly cooler conditions but should still prepare for temperatures in the low 80s. New Bedford, Hyannis, and Providence will join the inland cities with a hot stretch, impacting travel, outdoor work, and summer events. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

This warming trend follows a stretch of cooler, seasonable weather. By Tuesday, New Haven, Pittsfield, and Newport can also expect afternoon highs near or above 90°F, marking one of the warmest periods so far this July.

Heat advisories may be issued if humidity rises, and more updates are expected as the week progresses. Prepare for above-average temperatures through at least Wednesday.
