Massachusetts – Wind roars through neighborhoods south of Boston this morning, rattling windows and bending treetops as rain-soaked roads shine under gray skies. Gusts surge suddenly, making early travel tense and unpredictable across southeastern Massachusetts.

According to the National Weather Service, a High Wind Warning remains in effect until 3 p.m. for areas including Brockton, Taunton, and nearby Rhode Island communities such as Providence. South winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected through midday. These winds are strong enough to down trees, damage power lines, and cause scattered outages.

Rain continues during the morning, adding up to around three-quarters of an inch to one inch in spots. Wet pavement and debris increase hazards on Route 24, I-495, I-95, and I-195, where crosswinds can push vehicles unexpectedly. High-profile vehicles face the greatest danger. Residents should avoid parking under trees and secure holiday decorations immediately.

Conditions begin to improve later this afternoon as winds slowly ease. Behind the storm, colder air rushes in fast. Temperatures drop sharply tonight, falling into the mid-20s, setting the stage for flash freezing on untreated roads and sidewalks. Any leftover moisture may turn icy by early Saturday.

Saturday brings calmer but colder weather. Sunshine returns, yet highs struggle near 40°F, keeping a brisk winter feel in place. Sunday improves slightly, though nights remain cold, with lows dipping into the low 20s again.

Looking ahead to Christmas travel, meteorologists are tracking a developing winter pattern. Early models hint at a chance of rain or snow Tuesday, depending on temperature timing. Even light snow could slow travel during one of the busiest weeks of the year.

Five-Day Outlook:

  • Saturday: Sunny, high 40°F
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, high 45°F
  • Monday: Sunny, colder, high 33°F
  • Tuesday: Rain or snow possible, high 39°F
  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high 41°F
