Boston, Massachusetts – Bitter cold and strong winds are expected to spread across Massachusetts beginning Saturday, Feb. 8, setting up several days of hazardous winter conditions that could disrupt travel, strain utilities, and increase the risk of cold-related injuries.

According to the National Weather Service, a surge of Arctic air will move into New England from Feb. 8 through Tuesday, Feb. 11, with sustained winds driving wind chill values well below zero at times. The harshest conditions are expected overnight and during early morning hours, though cold and wind will persist through much of the day.

In eastern Massachusetts, including Boston, Worcester, and communities along the I-90 and I-93 corridors, wind chills are expected to dip below zero, making even brief outdoor exposure dangerous without proper protection. Along the coast, strong winds could add additional stress to power infrastructure, while inland areas may see icy patches develop on untreated roads during the coldest nights. Western and central parts of the state could experience even lower wind chills, particularly in higher elevations.

State and local officials urge residents to limit time outdoors, dress in layered, wind-blocking clothing, and check on elderly neighbors and those without reliable heat. Drivers should prepare for hard-starting vehicles and carry winter emergency supplies.

The cold pattern is expected to ease after Feb. 11, though additional wind chill advisories or warnings may be issued as conditions evolve.
