Boston, Massachusetts – Drivers across eastern Massachusetts may encounter slick roads during the Wednesday morning commute as pockets of freezing drizzle and light wintry precipitation linger, particularly across interior communities, before conditions gradually improve later today.
According to the National Weather Service office in Boston, batches of light freezing rain or drizzle mixed with plain rain are expected to continue through the morning hours. In interior sections of the state, a few flakes mixing in with rain or brief snow showers are possible by mid-morning, increasing the risk for slippery travel on untreated roads and elevated surfaces.
Areas most susceptible to slick spots include central and northern Massachusetts, where temperatures hover near freezing. While accumulations are expected to remain minimal, even a thin glaze of ice could lead to slowed traffic and minor accidents. Officials urge commuters to reduce speeds, allow extra stopping distance, and use caution on bridges and secondary roads.
Conditions are expected to trend drier by the afternoon as precipitation tapers off and temperatures rise into the upper 30s and low 40s. Boston, Providence, and much of coastal Massachusetts should see improving travel conditions by midday.
Any lingering slick spots should diminish as roads dry, but drivers are advised to remain cautious through the morning hours. No additional advisories are expected once precipitation ends, though officials recommend staying alert for updates during the commute.
