Boston, MA – Gray skies, slick streets, and a stiff breeze mark the start of a blustery December stretch across eastern Massachusetts. Temperatures hover in the mid-30s, just cold enough for a light rain–snow mix to develop north and west of the city by midday. While accumulations will stay minimal, the combination of wet pavement and gusty winds will make travel slower, especially along Route 1 and I-93 heading into the afternoon.

Southwest winds will gust near 40 mph through Thursday, pushing coastal air inland and dropping temperatures back toward freezing. The National Weather Service expects a brief round of snow showers Thursday afternoon, particularly north of Worcester and along higher elevations, before clearing sets in Friday.

By Friday morning, the coldest air of the week arrives, with highs barely reaching the mid-30s under mostly sunny skies. Wind chills will dip into the 20s, adding a bite to Boston’s bright but brisk afternoon. The weekend looks calmer — Saturday partly sunny near 36°F, with dry, crisp air ideal for outdoor plans, followed by a quiet and cool Sunday.

Long-range models show another push of Arctic air late next week that could bring New England’s coldest readings of the season, reinforcing the region’s slow slide into true winter conditions.
