Boston, Massachusetts – Steady rain soaking roads across Massachusetts today will transition into a messy mix and possible snow showers by Monday afternoon, creating slick travel conditions during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, rain will remain widespread through Sunday night with precipitation chances near 100 percent across cities including Boston, Worcester, and Providence. Early Monday morning, colder air moves in, allowing rain to mix with or briefly change to wet snow, especially across northern and higher elevation areas.

By Monday afternoon into the evening, scattered snow showers and brief squalls may develop statewide. These bursts could quickly reduce visibility and coat roads, particularly along I-90, I-93, and Route 2. Boston, Lowell, and Springfield may see intermittent snow showers with temperatures struggling between 38 and 46 degrees, while overnight lows dip into the upper 20s to near 30 degrees.

Coastal areas like Gloucester and Hyannis will remain mainly rain early, but even these regions could see brief snow showers later in the day.

Drivers should prepare for rapidly changing conditions Monday afternoon and allow extra travel time. Additional advisories may be issued as snow squalls develop.
