Boston, Massachusetts – Dangerous heat will blanket much of Massachusetts on Tuesday, July 29, with temperatures soaring into the upper 90s and heat indices peaking near 100°F across the Boston metro.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. Monday through 8 p.m. Wednesday, covering nearly all of southern New England except for the Berkshires, Cape Cod, and the Islands. The worst of the heat is expected Tuesday afternoon, especially along the I-95 corridor, where humidity will compound the risk of heat-related illness.

Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, use air conditioning, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Hydration is critical, and officials recommend avoiding strenuous activity unless it’s early morning or evening. Symptoms of heat exhaustion include dizziness, fatigue, and nausea—seek medical attention if these appear.

Major cities impacted include Boston, Worcester, Cambridge, and Providence. Public schools and municipal services could face disruptions due to the excessive heat. Cooling centers will be open in multiple locations Tuesday.

Looking ahead, Wednesday stays hot near 94°F, though isolated thunderstorms may bring relief. Thursday brings a 50% chance of rain with a cooler high of 80°F.
