Boston, MA – Massachusetts residents will battle oppressive heat and humidity Thursday, with heat indices soaring past 100°F and a risk of isolated severe thunderstorms between noon and 10 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service Boston/Norton, a Heat Advisory remains in effect statewide through 7 p.m., urging caution for anyone working or spending extended time outdoors. The combination of extreme heat and tropical humidity will push “feels-like” temperatures well above 95°F in Boston, Worcester, Springfield, and Providence, raising the risk of heat exhaustion during outdoor activities.
Communities in western and central Massachusetts—including Greenfield, Amherst, and Hartford—face the additional threat of isolated severe storms this afternoon and evening. Damaging winds are the primary concern, especially for those with outdoor plans. Power outages and fallen branches are possible along I-90 and I-91 corridors. If storms approach, seek shelter indoors and avoid travel during heavy downpours.
Anyone without air conditioning should seek cooling centers or public spaces to stay safe. Hydrate frequently, limit strenuous activity, and check on elderly neighbors and pets.
The heat is expected to ease by Friday, but additional weather alerts may be issued if storms intensify or new threats emerge. Stay tuned for updates from the National Weather Service.
