Boston, Mass. – Drivers across eastern Massachusetts should brace for wet roads and possible travel delays as a string of showers moves through the region this week. Heavy rain could impact commutes along I-93, I-95, and Route 128 through Thursday, with slick surfaces creating hazards during peak travel times.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered thunderstorms may develop by Wednesday evening, with the heaviest downpours expected late Wednesday into Thursday. Rainfall amounts could reach a quarter to half an inch, with localized flooding possible in poor drainage areas. Forecasters warn motorists to slow down, maintain extra distance, and avoid flooded intersections.

Boston, Worcester, and Lowell can expect cloudy skies and periods of rain on Wednesday and Thursday. By Thursday evening, showers remain likely, keeping roads damp and visibility limited. South Shore communities from Quincy to Plymouth may also see pockets of heavier rain, especially in the early hours.

While temperatures will stay mild, topping out in the upper 70s, humidity will remain high, making conditions feel sticky until the system clears. Fall officially began this week, but forecasters note that no true cold snap is expected just yet. Cooler nights, however, are possible by the weekend.

Residents are encouraged to keep umbrellas handy and plan for extra travel time through Thursday night. Additional advisories may be issued if rainfall intensifies or flooding develops.
