BOSTON, MA – The air turns sharply colder this morning across eastern Massachusetts as early December brings its first true winter tease. Under cloudy skies and biting wind chills, Greater Boston braces for a weekend mix of cold air, gusty winds, and a possible rain–snow event by Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, temperatures will hover in the low 30s today, then plunge into the upper teens by tonight under mostly clear skies. Friday offers brief sunshine but frigid air, with highs struggling near 27°F and wind chills in the teens through midday.

By Saturday, a weak coastal system approaches, drawing in slightly milder air and setting up a chance for light snow early, changing to rain by midday. While accumulations appear minor — under an inch for most areas — forecasters warn of slick spots and reduced visibility during the morning commute, especially north and west of the city.

Commuters using I-93, Route 128, or the Mass Pike should prepare for patchy ice and slushy shoulders early Saturday before roads improve. Winds remain steady from the northwest through the weekend, keeping temperatures seasonably cold — highs in the upper 30s, lows in the teens and 20s.

Looking further out, models hint at colder Arctic air and a stronger winter pattern developing Dec. 11–17, possibly reviving lake-effect snow around the Great Lakes and nudging New England toward another round of early-season snow just as holiday travel ramps up.
