Boston, Mass. – Storms could bring travel slowdowns and slick conditions across eastern Massachusetts on Sunday afternoon, especially along I-93 and I-90. Drivers should plan for sudden downpours, thunder, and reduced visibility from midday into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms begins Sunday night and continues into Monday. Gusty winds, lightning, and pockets of heavy rain may impact Boston, Cambridge, Quincy, and surrounding communities. Commuters are urged to monitor road conditions, charge devices, and allow extra time for travel.

Sunday will start mostly sunny with highs in the lower 80s, but storm chances increase sharply after 2 p.m. South winds will add humidity, making the air feel warmer. Overnight lows dip into the upper 60s with continued rain chances.

Monday carries the greatest risk for widespread storms, especially late morning through evening. Periods of heavy rain could slow traffic on the Massachusetts Turnpike and local highways. South winds near 10 mph may also complicate driving during downpours.

Relief arrives Tuesday, when skies clear and highs reach the upper 70s. Cooler, drier air remains through midweek, offering a more comfortable stretch after the unsettled start.

Showers may briefly return Thursday night, but no major storm system is expected beyond Monday.

Residents should remain alert through Monday evening as additional advisories or warnings could be issued if storms strengthen.
