Boston, MA – Massachusetts will start December on a colder note as an Arctic Blast settles over New England from Monday, Dec. 1 through Friday, Dec. 5, bringing a Cold December pattern with rain-and-snow chances and falling temperatures across the state.

According to the National Weather Service, Monday brings a chance of rain with partly sunny skies and a high near 45°F. Light west winds will help usher in a colder air mass Monday night, when the forecast calls for a chance of rain and snow under mostly cloudy skies. Overnight temperatures are expected to fall to around 26°F, marking the first significant push of Arctic air into the region.

The mixed precipitation continues into Tuesday, with the NWS calling for a chance of rain and snow and a high near 39°F. While any snowfall is expected to remain light, the transition between rain and snow during commuting hours could create minor travel impacts.

NOAA’s 6–10 Day Temperature Outlook shows Massachusetts leaning below normal through Dec. 1–5, consistent with this early December cold surge. While this Arctic Blast is not expected to produce heavy snow, forecasters note it will reinforce a more wintry pattern heading into the second week of December.

Residents across Boston and eastern Massachusetts should monitor updates as mixed precipitation and colder temperatures may lead to slick spots during the early-morning and evening hours.
