Boston, MA – Powerful winds are expected to sweep across much of Massachusetts tonight, with the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton issuing High Wind Warnings for both western Massachusetts and coastal areas including Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket.

The warnings take effect at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the Berkshires and 10 p.m. for the Cape and Islands, lasting through 8 a.m. Thursday. Forecasters expect west winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph, capable of downing trees and power lines and causing localized power outages.

The strongest winds are anticipated overnight, especially along the eastern slopes of the Berkshires and exposed coastal locations. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should exercise extreme caution, particularly on elevated routes and coastal bridges.

Officials urge residents to remain indoors during the storm, avoid windows, and secure outdoor items. Utility companies are preparing for possible outages as gusts intensify late tonight.

Winds are expected to diminish by Thursday morning, but lingering debris and outages may disrupt the morning commute across parts of western and southeastern Massachusetts.
