Hyannis, Massachusetts – Drivers along Cape Cod and the Islands have just hours before the afternoon high tide pushes water back onto low-lying shoreline roads between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, a Coastal Flood Advisory takes effect at 1 p.m. for Eastern Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket counties. One to two feet of inundation above ground level is possible in vulnerable coastal areas. Green Harbor is forecast to reach between 12.0 and 12.5 feet this afternoon, exceeding the 11.5-foot minor flood threshold. Hyannis Harbor may climb to 6.7 feet, while Nantucket Harbor is projected near 5.7 feet, both within minor flood range.

In Scituate, waves of 15 to 16 feet combined with a 12-foot tide could push water onto sections of Oceanside Drive and other harbor-front roads. On Nantucket, Easy Street near the harbor is prone to pockets of shallow flooding less than one foot deep. Parts of Sandwich Harbor and Dennis’ Sesuit Harbor may also see water cover parking areas and access roads.

Officials urge motorists not to drive around barricades or through standing saltwater. Even shallow flooding can hide debris and damage vehicles.

The coastal flood warning that was in place earlier expired at 7 a.m., but elevated tides continue through the evening cycle. Advisories remain in effect until 8 p.m., and additional statements could follow if water levels stay high into Tuesday morning.
