Lowell, Massachusetts – Snow and a light glaze of ice will continue to create hazardous travel conditions across northern and central Massachusetts through 7 a.m. EST Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until daybreak Saturday, with additional snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches and light ice accretion possible.

Road conditions will deteriorate during the evening commute.

Mixed precipitation is expected to impact Interstate 495 near Lowell and Lawrence, Route 2 through Fitchburg and Orange, and Interstate 90 west of Framingham. Even a light glaze of ice can create slick bridges and overpasses, especially after sunset.

Visibility may drop during heavier bursts of snow.

Communities including Cambridge, Gloucester, Greenfield, Ayer and Barre will see periods of snow and sleet overnight before precipitation tapers toward sunrise.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check 511 Massachusetts for updated road conditions before traveling.

Precipitation diminishes early Saturday morning, but icy patches may linger into the start of the day. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. EST Saturday.
