Boston, Mass. – A strong cold front pushing through Massachusetts Saturday night is expected to bring widespread showers and thunderstorms, disrupting weekend travel and outdoor plans across the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, light showers may develop late Friday into Saturday morning, but a more intense round of storms is set to arrive Saturday evening as the front moves through. Rain chances spike to 65% in Gloucester, Provincetown, and Worcester by 6 p.m. Saturday. Storms could bring brief downpours, lightning, and gusty winds, especially along I-90 and Route 128 corridors.

The front will temporarily cool conditions Sunday, with drier air and highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. But the relief will be short-lived. Heat builds quickly behind the front, with temperatures soaring to the upper 80s and low 90s across the state by Monday. Springfield and Hartford could hit 93°F, with Boston nearing 89°F by Tuesday.

Another cold front is expected Tuesday afternoon, bringing a renewed chance for storms before conditions stabilize for the second half of the week. With July 4th approaching, residents should stay weather-aware for additional advisories.
