Bristol County, MA – Drivers traveling in Bristol County should be prepared for a state police sobriety checkpoint scheduled for this weekend.

According to the Massachusetts State Police Office of Media Relations, the checkpoint will take place beginning Saturday, September 13, 2025, and continue into the early hours of Sunday, September 14, 2025. The department said the initiative aims to identify and remove impaired drivers from the road while also raising public awareness about the dangers of operating a vehicle under the influence.

Colonel Geoffrey D. Noble, superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, said the operation is supported by a grant from the Office of Grants and Research of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security. Police emphasized that the checkpoint will run during varied hours, and the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary. Officials said safety protocols will be followed and efforts will be made to minimize inconvenience to motorists.

Authorities said these checkpoints are designed not only to deter impaired driving but also to provide education for the public. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and avoid driving if they have been drinking or using drugs.

The department has not disclosed the exact location of the checkpoint but confirmed it will be held somewhere within Bristol County. Police said advance notice is intended to reduce fear and anxiety while maintaining transparency with the public.

State police urged drivers to exercise caution on the roadways this weekend and reminded the public that impaired driving remains a leading factor in serious crashes statewide.
