A Blizzard Warning takes effect this afternoon and runs into early Tuesday morning. Heavy snow is expected, with total accumulations between 1 and 2 feet across eastern Massachusetts. Winds may gust as high as 70 mph, creating whiteout conditions and dangerous blowing snow.
Snow develops late today and intensifies tonight. By Monday, snowfall could fall at rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour at times. Travel along I-95, the Mass Pike, and Route 1 may become extremely treacherous. Visibility could drop below a quarter mile in falling and blowing snow.
Conditions may deteriorate quickly after sunset. Plan now. Avoid unnecessary travel once heavy snow begins. Power outages are possible as strong winds weigh down tree limbs.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect early Monday. Minor coastal flooding and splash-over are possible around high tide, especially in low-lying shoreline areas of Suffolk and Essex counties.

Looking ahead, Tuesday turns mostly sunny but cold near 32. Another round of snow is possible Wednesday into Wednesday night, with a rain and snow mix hinted. Thursday trends milder near 40 with a chance of rain. By next weekend, temperatures may reach the lower 40s, signaling gradual moderation and early hints of spring warmth.
