Massachusetts – Headlights glow through thick fog across Boston this morning as damp air clings to streets and rooftops. Temperatures hover near 34°F, just cold enough for drizzle to freeze on colder surfaces.

Meteorologists warn that patches of freezing drizzle may create slick spots on untreated roads early today. The risk is highest in elevated terrain and colder neighborhoods outside downtown Boston.

Even in lower elevations, temperatures near the freezing mark can allow thin ice to form briefly. Bridges, overpasses, and shaded roads are especially vulnerable.

Drivers along I-93, I-90 (Mass Pike), and Route 128 should slow down during the morning commute. Wet pavement may hide thin glaze ice in spots. Sidewalks and parking lots may also become slippery.

Conditions gradually improve through late morning as temperatures rise above freezing. By midday, Boston should climb toward 49°F, easing the icy threat.

Clouds linger through much of the day before another round of rain moves in tonight. Showers may redevelop late evening and continue into early Sunday.

Despite the damp start, signs of spring are beginning to show across southern New England. Temperatures rebound into the low 60s Sunday, followed by a mostly sunny Monday with highs near 58°F.

Even warmer air arrives Tuesday as sunshine pushes temperatures toward the mid-60s, signaling the first real stretch of springlike weather this March.

Another seasonal milestone arrives early Sunday morning when Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Clocks move forward one hour, bringing longer daylight evenings across Massachusetts.

Meteorologists also note a wetter midweek pattern developing, with additional rain chances returning by Wednesday.
