Boston, Massachusetts – A late-season nor’easter is set to disrupt eastern Massachusetts midweek, bringing heavy rain, powerful northeast winds, and significantly colder temperatures from Wednesday evening through Friday.
According to the National Weather Service Boston, the workweek will begin on a quieter note, with Monday and Tuesday remaining mostly dry despite cooler air and a few scattered showers in northeast Massachusetts. However, a major pattern shift will occur late Wednesday as a coastal low intensifies offshore, triggering periods of soaking rain and gusty winds from Wednesday night into Friday.
Coastal communities including Gloucester, Plymouth, and Boston may face wind gusts over 40 mph and localized flooding in poor drainage areas. Rough marine conditions will also impact mariners, with hazardous seas expected off Cape Ann and the South Shore. High temperatures will fall well below seasonal averages, dipping into the upper 40s to mid-50s across much of eastern Massachusetts.
Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm periods, secure outdoor objects, and monitor for coastal flood advisories. Power outages may occur due to wind-downed limbs and saturated ground.
Unsettled weather will likely continue into early Friday. Additional advisories or warnings could be issued as the nor’easter intensifies.
