Boston, MA – A late-season Nor’easter is hammering eastern Massachusetts today with damaging wind gusts, heavy rainfall, and a heightened risk of minor coastal flooding during the evening high tide.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, a Wind Advisory remains in effect for coastal counties through tonight, with northeast gusts between 40 and 50 mph expected. A Coastal Flood Advisory is also active along the eastern shoreline, from Boston to Provincetown and down to Nantucket, as high tide brings potential for splash-over and localized flooding in vulnerable areas.
Boston, Plymouth, New Bedford, and Hyannis are all bracing for 2 to 3 inches of rainfall, most of it falling during the afternoon and evening commute. Forecasters warn that poor drainage street flooding could impact major roads like I-93 and Route 3, particularly in low-lying neighborhoods.
Along with flooding, strong winds may down tree limbs and cause scattered power outages—especially on Cape Cod and the Islands, where gusts could exceed 50 mph. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid shoreline roads, and charge electronics in case of outages.
The storm threat continues into the overnight hours. Advisories remain in place, and further updates are expected from the NWS as conditions evolve.
