Pittsfield, MA – A late-season snow system is expected to bring significant snowfall to parts of western Massachusetts and eastern New York beginning at midnight Friday and lasting through 2 p.m. Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Berkshire County in Massachusetts and western Greene and Ulster counties in New York. The advisory forecasts total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, with higher elevations above 2,000 feet in the eastern Catskills possibly receiving up to 6 inches. Some sleet may mix in over the Berkshires, briefly impacting accumulation rates.

Snowfall rates may reach up to an inch per hour during the late morning hours Saturday, with travel conditions deteriorating due to snow-covered and slippery roads, especially on untreated or colder surfaces.

Residents in North Adams, Pittsfield, Hunter, Woodstock, and surrounding towns should use caution when driving and allow extra travel time. Local departments are advising drivers to reduce speed and leave plenty of space between vehicles.

This storm system is unusual for mid-April and serves as a reminder that winter conditions can linger in the region. Drivers are encouraged to monitor local alerts and be prepared for changing weather through midday Saturday.
