Springfield, Mass. – A sweltering stretch of heat will grip western Massachusetts through Tuesday, with heat index values soaring as high as 103°F, raising the risk of heat-related illness for residents in Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. Sunday until 8 p.m. Tuesday, impacting cities including Charlemont, Blandford, and Chesterfield. The combination of high temperatures and oppressive humidity will make conditions especially dangerous during the afternoon and early evening hours.
Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak heat, limit outdoor activity, and check on vulnerable individuals such as seniors and those without access to air conditioning. Local officials recommend staying hydrated, using fans or cooling centers, and never leaving children or pets in parked vehicles.
The advisory remains active through Tuesday evening, with additional warnings possible if conditions worsen.
