Weymouth, MA – Two brothers were taken into custody this week after allegedly being found in possession of a significant quantity of fentanyl and cocaine, as law enforcement agencies cracked down on a suspected trafficking operation spanning eastern to western Massachusetts.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, investigators from the Commonwealth Interstate Narcotics Reduction Enforcement Teams (CINRET-West and CINRET-South), working alongside Weymouth Police Department detectives, launched surveillance at an apartment complex in Weymouth on Monday. The coordinated operation was aimed at intercepting Elijah Tavares and Isaiah Tavares, who authorities allege were distributing large amounts of fentanyl and cocaine.

Authorities report that both suspects exited the building through separate doors late in the evening. Elijah Tavares, allegedly resisting arrest at the front entrance, was apprehended following a brief struggle. Police say he was found with fentanyl and cocaine allegedly packaged for distribution. Simultaneously, Isaiah Tavares was arrested at the rear of the building, allegedly carrying over 1 kilogram of fentanyl in the front pocket of his sweatshirt.

A subsequent search warrant executed on the suspects’ dwelling and three associated vehicles reportedly uncovered 4.5 kilograms of fentanyl, approximately 46 grams of cocaine, two loaded firearms with ammunition, a large sum of cash, and several pounds of marijuana. Elijah and Isaiah Tavares were booked at SP Norwell on multiple narcotics and assault charges.

The Massachusetts State Police emphasized that this investigation was made possible through the collaboration of the CINRET teams, Troop D Community Action Team, Norwell Barracks, MSP Air Wing, and Weymouth Police detectives.
