Boston, Massachusetts – Easter Sunday travel across Massachusetts could turn messy at times as periods of rain develop statewide, while colder inland areas face a rain-to-snow mix that may create slick conditions during key holiday travel windows.

According to the National Weather Service, this extended 6-to-10 day outlook favors above-normal precipitation across the Northeast through midweek, with temperature swings supporting mixed precipitation, especially overnight and across higher elevations.

In Boston, Quincy, and along the I-95 corridor, rain will be the primary concern, with occasional heavier showers reducing visibility during peak travel hours Sunday between 6 a.m. and noon. Ponding on roadways like I-90 and Route 128 may slow traffic heading to Easter gatherings.

Farther inland, including Worcester, Fitchburg, and the Berkshires, temperatures dipping into the mid-30s at night could allow rain to mix with or briefly change to wet snow. While significant accumulation is not expected, slushy coatings may develop on untreated roads and elevated surfaces, especially during early morning hours.

Springfield and western Massachusetts will see mostly rain during the day, but higher elevations along Route 2 and I-91 could experience brief snow bursts overnight.

Daytime temperatures will trend near to slightly above normal, keeping most conditions wet but still disruptive for outdoor Easter activities.

Unsettled conditions persist through April 9, and additional advisories may be issued as confidence increases in timing and precipitation type.
