Hartford, Connecticut – Snow, sleet and up to one-tenth of an inch of ice will continue to create hazardous travel across northern Connecticut, central Massachusetts and northern Rhode Island through 7 a.m. EST Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until daybreak Saturday, with additional snow and sleet accumulations up to 3 inches and ice accumulations around 0.10 inch.

Road conditions will deteriorate during the evening commute.

Mixed precipitation is expected to impact Interstate 90 near Worcester, Interstate 84 through Hartford and Tolland counties, and Interstate 91 from Springfield to Northampton. Even a tenth of an inch of ice can coat bridges and overpasses, creating slick conditions overnight.

Travel may become hazardous after sunset.

Communities including Hartford, Springfield, Worcester, Willimantic, Putnam and Smithfield could see periods of sleet and freezing rain before precipitation tapers toward sunrise.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check 511 for real-time road conditions before heading out.

Precipitation diminishes early Saturday morning, but icy patches may linger through the start of the day. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. EST Saturday.
